Thales Alenia Space honours Airborne with Supplier Innovation Award

Wednesday June 13th, our Airborne team travelled to Cannes, France to join the prestigious Supplier Event of Thales Alenia Space (TAS). TAS is a joint-venture between Thales and Leonardo. Airborne won the award of Most Innovative Supplier.

TAS is Europe’s largest satellite manufacturer. Its architects design and deliver high technology solutions for telecommunications, navigation, Earth observation, environmental management, exploration, science and orbital infrastructures. Since 2016, Airborne works closely with TAS on the development of solar arrays for their satellites.

Automation and innovation

The jury praised Airborne for their innovative mind-set, the co-engineering sessions and new ideas that have been proposed for NewSpace developments. Especially our automation skills and insights were praised.

Janine van der Hilst and Dirk Dautzenberg represented our team at Cannes. Van der Hilst says: “It is an honour for Airborne to receive this prestigious 2018 innovation award, recognizing Airborne as their most innovative supplier. We are very proud to have won this award and are honoured to be a supplier of TAS, being their partner in the development of the solar array panels of the future.”

Co-engineering sessions

Dautzenberg says: “Since 2016, our companies have been working together very closely. We have organised regular co-engineering sessions to actively support each other and generating new innovative ideas, in order to improve and make the products cost-effective. It is a journey with hurdles and breakthroughs, and by being proactive and keeping an open and direct communication we have managed to intensify our relation and stimulate each other achieving the best results.”

Boosting innovation even further

Sandor Woldendorp, Business Development Manager Space is also very grateful for the award: “TAS is well known for its believe in SME’s, start-ups and incubators, boosting their innovation through collaboration. We are very proud to be part of the Thales Alenia Space ecosystem and been awarded for our innovative mind-set.
